Treetops Hospice Charity Event

General Posted on Fri, April 10, 2015 13:26

Following a request made my Treetops
Hospice (Risley) after last years’ success, we were asked back again to
setup our ‘Have A Go Archery’ stall for their Easter Egg Hunt.

As last year, it was an early start
on Easter Saturday meeting at the Asterdale for 8am to load up our cars,
Tony was dragged out of bed to take the bosses in his pick-up. The
downside was we had a fair amount of rain over the week and
we may have left some ruts on the Asterdale ground (hopefully no-one will notice).
We made our way over to Treetops via a slight detour but we won’t
mention that. The team unloaded and setup in record time after a number
of debates due to Treetops
also being water-logged but we found somewhere safe to setup our stall.

After a slow start our stall soon got busy with people of all ages wanting a go at archery, we made
£210 which is up from last years’ £174. We were
charging £2 per 6 arrows so you can calculate we saw 105 people but the
reality is we did give a few people free goes so the team actually saw
more customers than the final figures indicate.
The ground was muddy and the weather was cloudy and cold but the team
remained motivated for the 5 hours we spent raising money for the
charity.

I would
like to extend my thanks to all our volunteers on behalf
of ABAC and Treetops Hospice.

DCAA Indoor Champs. 2015

Results, Tournaments Posted on Fri, April 10, 2015 13:13

It was a fair turnout for Anchor Bowmen archers at the enjoyable DCAA
Senior and Junior Indoor championship, hosted at Derby University over
the weekend of the 14th & 15th of March 2015.

It was great to see our Junior Recurve members doing so well with Ethan
Hall taking 1st place (and overall junior champion boy) in the Under 18 competition, Elliott
Wilson taking 1st in the Under 16 competition and Lewis
Haslam coming first in the Boys Under 12 competition.

Another noticeable win was for Tim Simmonds in the Gent’s Longbow competition. It’s about time he won something! smiley

Full results can be found on our tournaments page.

Well done to all!

General Posted on Tue, November 25, 2014 14:35

Good afternoon everyone
I would just like to say a big thank you for your support last night in attending a most enjoyable evening at the Cosmo restaurant in Derby. It was nice to see so many familiar welcoming faces when I first arrived in the reception area. I am sure you all had a great time as I did, with such a wide selection of wonderfully prepared dishes from around the world I was like a kid in a sweet shop. It was a most pleasurable experience made all the more enjoyable in your wonderful company.

I look forward to meeting up with you all at our AGM next Monday
Kind Regards
David

Beginners equipment buying guide

Documents/Guides, Equipment Posted on Wed, October 08, 2014 00:02

In preparation for the latest batch of beginners approaching the end of their 10 week course I have been working on a beginners guide to buying archery equipment that I wish I could have had access to a couple of years ago.

The attached draft has been updated after review by a few people in the club (thanks for your constructive comments). Its now close enough to right to be ready for an initial issue. Please feel free to use it if you find it of value or ignore it if not.

New club tool box

Equipment Posted on Sat, October 04, 2014 08:03

Over the last couple of weeks I have put together an equipment officers toolbox. It is stocked with screw drivers, allen keys, pliers, nocking pliers, fletching jig(s), fletching glue, nocking and serving thread, limb guages, bracing guage, gaffer tape and even a micro blow torch and lighter amongst other items. Hopefully we have everything we need for tuning and field repairs of bows and arrows (including refixing glue in points) all in one place. Its there for the use of all club members so please feel free to make use of it. Look out for the orange and black tool case.

During the summer season it will remain in the containers. During the indoor season or while we are running indoor courses (as now) it will spend a lot more time in my car boot. Please just ask if you need it, or if you need any help using it.

equipment swap shop

Equipment Posted on Fri, October 03, 2014 06:56

Over the last few weeks a couple of club members have donated old unused items of equipment to the club. If anyone else has any items they don’t need or want anymore please feel free to let me have them and I will set up a ‘loan’ service. Hopefully we can save new archers some initial expense as they decide what items they really want to buy. Pat has already donated a number of chest guards and tabs (he must have been shooting even longer than he claims to have acquired this many!).

Andy Harrison, equipment officer.
